Program Note:

I composed Sing the Saddest Song in 2005 for singer and chamber ensemble on a commission from the Albany Symphony (NY). It was one of three in a set of torch songs from a larger work titled Exile Tunes.  Shortly after the premiere, I realized the potential for this subsequent instrumental version. The original song lyrics are about the difficulties of making meaningful connections to others.  The singer pines about singing a sad, beautiful tune about love, but she is unsure if the song will touch anyone.
